Material Selection: Zirconia, Titanium, and Crystal Ultra
Each material serves a different clinical priority. Here is how we think about the choice between them.
Material selection is a clinical decision, not a preference. Titanium CAD/CAM bars provide framework strength. Monolithic zirconia offers durability. Layered zirconia adds esthetic depth. Crystal Ultra prioritizes translucency and lighter weight.
In hybrid prosthetics, the framework and the superstructure can be different materials — a titanium bar with a zirconia or Crystal Ultra superstructure, for example. The combination is chosen around the clinical priority of the case.
We advise on material selection during treatment planning, so the choice is made with the clinical outcome in mind — not after the case is already in manufacturing.
